Tragedy struck at the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday morning when one of their officials was shot dead by armed robbers.
The NFF announced on their Twitter handle that they lost their Head of Protocol Ibrahim Abubakar to gunmen earlier on Wednesday.
"NFF's Head of Protocol Ibrahim Abubakar was shot dead by armed robbers in his house in Abuja in the early hours of today," the NFF tweeted on Wednesday morning.
"Abubakar's remains is being taken to Kaduna for burial."
Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye further confirmed the tragic incident when he tweeted: "Shocking, devastating & tragic news about the killing of @thenff's head of protocol Ibrahim Abubakar by armed robbers this morning in Abuja."
The news will come as a big blow to the home-based Super Eagles who are preparing in South Africa for the African Nations Championships, and have a friendly against Angola later on Wednesday.
