Nigeria: Pharmacy Students Offer Free Services to 10,000 Persons

Pharmacy students of the University of Benin have offered free diabetic treatment in an exercise tagged 'Pharmacare 10,000', aimed at reaching out to 10,000 people suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

The students visited various markets in Benin City where they rendered free treatments to hypertensive and diabetic patients, mostly traders.

The President, Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), Darry Emazor, stated that 'Pharmacare 10,000' was part of the activities to mark the 2015 annual health week of the association.

A 500-level student who was in the counselling section of the Pharmacare 10,000 team, Jennifer Omuri, said most of the traders were unaware of the implications of what they eat and drink, adding that she advised them to visit the hospital while placing them on light exercise regimen to cut out excess fat.

Chinenye Ihejirika of the Anti-Drug Misuse and Abuse Program (ADMAP), and Papa Monday of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) thanked the students for the kind gesture and urged them to always come to the aid of their host communities.
