No fewer than 250 passengers of Air France/KLM Airlines to Europe and other destinations were stranded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Friday.
A source, who spoke to our correspondent stated that they had been stranded for almost two days because the airline officials said the aircraft developed technical problem on Thursday. The source added that the airline after lodging the passengers in a hotel at Amuwo-Odofin Area of Lagos, abandoned the passengers there.
As a result, the passengers are worried that they may not be flown to their destinations, as there had not been communication from the airline.
One of the affected passengers who simply identified himself as Chris stated that the passengers had already boarded the aircraft, when the airline’s crew announced to them that they won’t be departing Lagos as arranged due to technical fault developed by the aircraft.
Chris said that the passengers were disembarked at 11pm and taken to the hotel at Amuwo-Odofin.
He however said that their inability to travel as scheduled because of the technical fault was in tune with international best practices, but lamented that since Thursday night, the airline’s management had said nothing as it concerns their departure from Lagos.
He also complained that aside checking them into the hotel, none of the passengers were given refreshment in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The angry passenger stated that such inhuman treatment would not happen in other developed countries.
Chris said that he was travelling to New York for a conference that would start on Saturday,August,2015 and ends on Monday, adding that with what the airline had done, it was obvious he won’t be able to make the trip and that he would demand for a refund from the airline.
Contacted the Spokesperson for Air France /KLM, Mrs. Funmi Ojesina, promised to get back to our correspondent on the issue but as at the time of compiling this report, her reaction was still been awaited.
