Manager of Bermondsey café 'Fuckoffee' Adrian Jones admitted the name was only intended as a joke but said he would re-brand the store under a different name on Friday.
The 47-year-old had been warned by the building owners that his expletive-referenced display was offensive and would be torn down unless he volunteered to remove it.
Fuckoffee originally responded by tweeting a picture of the legal letter they received, commenting: "No humour please, we're British."
After the furore broke, Jones told of locals' reaction to his newly named shop.
"The police played up a bit, but later admitted there’s no legal problem with it," he told the Evening Standard.
“But this letter – I’ve spoken to my solicitor and he says we haven’t got a leg to stand on.”
Jones remained adamant, though: “I was doing coffee before Starbucks, so I can call my shop anything I want."
