At least 10 migrants drowned Saturday and 20 others were rescued after a boat carrying undocumented migrants capsized near the shores of Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.
The boat was carrying migrants from Syria, Sudan and other African countries on their way to Italy illegally.
The 20 migrants saved from drowning were transferred to Kafr El-Sheikh Hospital for treatment. The search continues, according to security authorities in Kafr El-Sheikh, to find more survivors or bodies.
Italy has been a frequent destination for undocumented migrants.
Kafr El-Sheikh also has been a hotspot for migrants in Egypt seeking illegal entry to Europe by sea.
International migrant advocates have warned that the numbers drowning on the dangerous journey have soared this year, with at least 1,800 dying so far in 2015.
