Thirteen persons, among whom are two women, have been arrested by operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command and the Department of State Services in connection with the incidents of kidnapping in the state in the last three months.
Four persons were also declared wanted by the security agencies, which have urged the public to give useful information on the suspected kidnappers who are at large.
A self-acclaimed pastor, Mr Babatunde Balogun, was arrested alongside the kidnap syndicates serving as spiritual counsellors to the suspected kidnappers and sharing from their loots.
Kenneth Felix Osoh, Jonathan Osoh, Kehinde Adeleye and Sunday Ogunleye were on the wanted list of the police over their alleged involvement in the abduction of a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr Femi Omisore, a Catholic priest, Rev Father Emmanuel Akingbade, among other victims kidnapped at different locations across the state.
Parading the suspects at the DSS office in Ado Ekiti yesterday, at an event attended by Governor Ayodele Fayose, the DSS state director, Mr Duke Fubara and the police commissioner, Mr Etop James, noted that the suspects were part of the kidnap syndicates that have been terrorising the residents of the state since May 2015, saying that they had made confessional statements about their involvement in the criminal activities.
Fubara stated that one Gbenga David, a.k.a Oruma, was arrested by his men in Osun State during the investigation and was hit by bullets while attempting to escape, adding that he is now receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. He attributed the success recorded to the collaboration between the DSS and the police aimed at making crimes and miscreants history in the state.
