Tom Cruise will return as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 6

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation has only just hit cinemas and plans are already going ahead for the next movie.

Leading star Tom Cruise has told The Daily Show that he will be back as Ethan Hunt for a sixth instalment of the franchise.

"We're starting to work on it now. We'll probably start shooting it next summer," he explained to host Jon Stewart.

The sixth Mission: Impossible movie could be the fastest sequel to come out of the series yet, after the first five films had at least four years between.

So far the franchise has grossed a combined $2 billion at the worldwide box office - which will find no trouble rising as Rogue Nation opens in over 40 countries.

Paramount is yet to officially announce the next Mission: Impossible movie.
