Thunder struck on Saturday in Sabon Titi community, in the Tunga area of Minna, Niger State, killing a 42-year- old man, Mallam Mohammed Jibo.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident took place after a downpour, which brought lightning and thunderstorm.
A resident, who did not give his name, said, “The victim told his family members that he was going for his usual football practice at the police barrack football pitch. It was while he was on the field that thunder struck him dead.”
It was gathered that other footballers were affected by the thunderclaps, but it was only Muhammed that fell and hit his forehead against the ground.
Eyewitnesses said some spectators rushed onto the field to revive the stricken victim, but their intervention yielded no result.
The elder brother of the deceased, Alhaji Usman Jibo, who spoke on behalf of the family, told PUNCH Metrothat it would take time for the family to forget the tragedy that befell it.
