Ondo begins N4bn water project in Ilaje

The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, will on Tuesday inaugurate the construction of the first phase of a N4.1bn water project in Aboto area of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state in a bid to find a lasting solution to the perennial water supply problem in the riverside areas of the state.

A statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, in Akure on Sunday, stated that the water project would supply two million gallons of raw water intake per day and treatment facilities.

Akinmade said the water project was important to the people of the communities of Ilaje as they travelled a long distance to get water to drink.

Giving details of the project, Akinmade explained that the contract awarded few months ago is in two parts, which include the pipe laying and water rising main section located at Aboto.

He said the pipe laying aspect would cover 45.5km, adding that the 10km of the pipe laying had been completed by the contractors.

“The water project will take a new dimension. It involves the construction of 2 million gallons per day raw water intake and treatment facilities and laying of 45,6km water rising main along Igbokoda Ugbonla road,” the commissioner stated.

He added that apart from the water project inauguration, Mimiko is expected to inspect the rehabilitation and overlay work going on, on the 33.48km Igbokoda-Ugbonla road.

The Commissioner also explained that Governor Olusegun Mimiko was scheduled to inaugurate 1.7km concrete weigh bridge in Bolowo and its environs in Ilaje Local Government Area.
