The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, in a statement issued in Akure on Sunday stated this. He said the planned attack which had been scripted would begin with a series of petitions to be written against the personality of the Governor and his administration.
According to him, after alleged several failed attempts by adversaries to indict the Governor through petitions written against him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a meeting was allegedly held in Abuja in the house of a prominent Ondo politician recently where a lawyer was assigned to write frivolous petitions against Dr. Mimiko using frame-up allegations, especially on the Oil Producing Areas Development Commission in the state.
The Commissioner reported that the lawyer was expected to begin his ‘assignment’ with a petition against the governor over what “the meeting said should be another frame-up allegation on the spending of funds allocated to the Agency”, adding that “checks have revealed the identity of the hired Abuja-based lawyer who works for the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, which explains his choice for the hatchet job.”
The statement said, “In fact, the man was one of the lawyers who appeared for the EFCC chairman at the hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, on the alleged misappropriation of funds against the anti-graft agency boss in Abuja last week.”
